Today when the national prestige of the DPRK has reached the highest level and a new era of national prosperity is being opened, the Korean people are looking back upon the grim days in December 1956.

The December 1956 instantly reminds all the Korean people of the December Plenary Meeting of the Party Central Committee and Kangson. Like so, the December Plenary Meeting and the field guidance given by President
The situation and circumstances prevailing before the revolution at that time were unprecedentedly severe.
The international communist movement was suffering hardships due to the opportunists and taking this opportunity the aggressive moves of the US imperialists were getting more frantic. And at the same time, the anti-Party, counter-revolutionary factionalists were challenging the Party by taking advantage of the situation.
At this time, the President, determined to overcome the difficulties and open up a new phase of the revolution by relying on the strength of our people, put forward the revolutionary slogan "Let's produce more, practise economy, and overfulfil the Five-Year Plan ahead of schedule!" and aroused the entire Party and all the people to the grand struggle at the historic December 1956 Plenary Meeting of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea.
In response to the great call, the heroic Korean people worked remarkable miracles and feats in 1957, the first year of the Five-Year Plan.
That memorable historic victory reminds a name.
Kangson, the native place of Chollima!
All the workers of Kangson were very excited to have the meeting in the presence of the President who personally visited them just after the historic Plenary Meeting of the Party Central Committee.
That day, the President, who sat knee to knee with ordinary workers of the then Kangson Steelworks, informed them of the basic spirit of the December Plenary Meeting of the Party Central Committee and the huge tasks of the Five-Year Plan and told them about the complex situation at home and abroad and all the difficulties of the country. Then, he earnestly said that in the December Plenary Meeting of the Party Central Committee, the Party called upon the workers of Kangson to produce 10 000 tons more steel than planned next year and that the country's economy would be stabilized in that case.
Before the President who ardently called upon them to overcome the difficulties of the revolution believing in each other, the workers of Kangson rose to their feet, waved their fists, told him they would throw all the factionalists into the electric furnace if they are sent to them, and resolved to carry out any difficult task without fail.
The workers of Kangson resolutely turned out in the struggle to produce 10 000 tons more steel, eliminating the passive elements who were denying the plan and talking "it is a miracle if at least 80 000 tons of steel is produced at the blooming mill with 60 000 tons capacity", "it is necessary to consider the load of the motor", by making a great collective innovation.
What the President asked for is our standard. This was the unyielding spirit kept in mind of the workers of the previous generation. Thus, they could work a miracle of producing 120 000 tons of steel at the blooming mill with a capacity of 60 000 tons although they were short of materials, funds and labor and living in a poor condition.
Indeed.
It is the quality of the DPRK and the indomitable fighting manner and merit of the Korean people to grow stronger and win greater victory in the ordeals.
As long as there are the wise leadership of the great Party and the Korean people with indomitable revolutionary spirit and ever-victorious fighting manner, only victory will be in store for the DPRK which is advancing toward the realization of its ideal.
