The Greatest Trust in the Intellectuals

Chairman Kim Jong Il showed the greatest love and trust that in the work of accomplishing the revolutionary cause of Juche, intellectuals and writers are our Party's eternal companions, faithful assistants and excellent advisers in its building and activities. This was a historic event that put their position and role on the highest level in our revolutionary struggle.

Chairman Kim Jong Il said:

"There is no other party than ours that puts forward intellectuals as its eternal companions, faithful assistants and excellent advisers."

One day in December Juche 79 (1990), Chairman Kim Jong Il received a letter from the poets of the Korean Literary Production Company.

The poets of the Company expressed, in the letter, their firm determination to become the lifeguards and death-defying corps defending Kim Jong Il and become trumpeters of the Workers' Party defending our Party, revolution, country and socialist system with the pen of revolution.

The great General was greatly impressed while reading the letter.

How trustworthy were our intellectuals who were determined to hold the pen of revolution more firmly in defense of the Party and the leader, the country and the revolution, when intellectuals were a source of trouble in some socialist countries, giving rise to abnormal happenings.

Kim Jong Il sent a letter of reply to the Korean Literary Production Company, full of love and trust in the intellectuals who would walk only one way of loyalty in the future, no matter what might happen, just as they had worked faithfully for the Party in the bosom of the President in the past.

I want you to be our Party's eternal companions, faithful assistants and wise advisers in its building and activities.

Kim Jong Il"

On January 5, Juche 80 (1991), Kim Jong Il talked about this again and showed deep trust in our intellectuals.

That day he said that the Party members belonging to the 2nd Party Cell in the 5th Bureau of the Korean Central News Agency and the poets from the Korean Literary Creating Company wrote that they will trust and follow only our Party, whatever trying period might appear in their recent letters. He added that the poets sharply denounced the writers and artists of the East European countries who stood in the vanguard of counterrevolution and took the road of counterrevolution before anybody else in those countries.

He also said that as the intellectuals of these countries are following the road of counterrevolution in opposition to their parties, our intellectuals are actively supporting their Party and showing in full their loyalty to their Party and leader and he takes great pride in having these excellent intellectuals who trust and follow only their Party in the complex international situation.

And he went on that our intellectuals were unfailingly faithful to the Party in the past, too. In the days when he started working at the Party Central Committee the intellectuals who were working with him all followed him sincerely and actively helped his work. He said that he is sure they did not do so in anticipation that he would become the Secretary in Charge of Organizational Affairs. He added that after he took up this post, more and more intellectuals have worked devotedly in support of him. In reply to the letter from the poets, he wrote what he had long wanted to tell them, picturing the poets and all other intellectuals who have worked in faithful support of the Party in the past.

With his great trust calling them eternal companions, faithful assistants and wise advisers as their lifeblood, our intellectuals could defend our-style socialism and dynamically advance along the road of building a powerful socialist country under the guidance of Chairman Kim Jong Il, assuming the stance of the pen inscribed on the Party emblem despite the severe trials and hardships.

As we have the respected General Secretary who is carrying forward the noble intention of President Kim Il Sung and Chairman Kim Jong Il, the great trust in and love to our intellectuals are growing bigger and bigger.

The respected General Secretary, calling an ordinary woman intellectual a patriotic scientist, invited her as a special guest to the auspicious celebration festival of the 70th founding anniversary of the Party and has built so many grand monumental edifices of love for our intellectuals.

Right.

Under the warm love and the great trust of the peerless great men, our intellectuals will follow only the road of loyalty to the Party straight and forever.
