To Relieve Women from Burden of Housework

 2026.7.28.

President Kim Il Sung said:

"Women should cook foods, do laundry and take care of their children. So we should free them from the heavy burden of household chores."

The women of the DPRK cannot forget even a moment the great benevolence of President Kim Il Sung who set it as one of the three major tasks of the technical revolutionary to free women from the heavy burden of housework.

There is a story which tells the warm love of the President who saw to it that laundry and other public service facilities were built in different parts of Pyongyang to implement the decision of the 5th Congress of the Workers' Party of Korea on freeing women from the heavy burden of their housework.

Speaking at an important meeting of the Pyongyang Municipal Party Committee on December 3, 1970, on some tasks to improve the life of Pyongyang citizens, the President said that they should not spare investment in building welfare service facilities, and took a benevolent measure to build laundry in order to free women from the heavy burden of household chores. Saying that the laundry construction should be a social movement, he saw to it that the state supplied all the equipment and materials necessary for the building of the laundry and ensured that relevant production units produced large-sized washing machines and domestic washing machines.

The President had already enforced the social policies for women like building nurseries and kindergartens on the large sizes in factories and rural villages across the country in a wonderful way and raising children at the expense of the state. And he again took a measure to build laundry houses to lessen the women's laundering burden which occupies the large part of household chores. His efforts and devotion to free the women of heavy burden of housework are beyond enumeration.

Indeed, the whole life of President Kim Il Sung was the history of self-sacrificing service and the life of a great revolutionary, entirely devoted to the happiness of the people.
