They produced a super machine, a 10,000-ton power press by their own efforts in those days when the speed of the 1980s was created, recording a brilliant chapter in the history of nation-building. The revolutionary spirit of self-reliance owned by them now brings home to everybody the truth that self-reliance is the eternal lifeline for them to survive.

In 1980s, Korean people were making dynamic efforts to reach the great target set forth by the 6th Congress of the Workers' Party of Korea and rolled steel was the main problem to be solved in several sectors of the national economy that was developing by leaps and bounds. In machine-building factories, shipbuilding yards and construction sites of power stations, they failed to keep production going on a high level due to the lack of rolled steel.
To meet this rapidly-growing demand for rolled steel, rollers should be supplied in time to the branch rolling mill under Kimchaek Iron Complex, but at that time, there was no ability to produce a roller for cold-rolling in the country.
Without a 10,000-ton power press, it was impossible to manufacture a roller for cold-rolling and the country had not had that super equipment yet.
In those days, the countries that produced a 10,000-ton power press were very rare in the world and even big countries with the developed economy could not produce it.
Like this, a 10,000-ton power press could be called the core of modern machine industry.

As being well-known to the world, the working class of Ryongsong was the proud and reliable working class who displayed the power of Korean industry to the full by producing 3,000-ton and 6,000-ton power presses before.
It was the Chairman's decision that only when they were inspired to produce 10,000-ton power press, could the DPRK, though having short history of industrial development, produce it the developed industrial countries wouldn't dare.
On May 18, Juche73(1984), he visited Ryongsong Machine Complex with his determination to encourage them.
Sitting together with workers in a friendly manner, he talked about the incomparably enlarged scale of the national economy and asked them if they could produce a 10,000-ton power press, adding that the country's economy had already grown fast enough to have it.
A 10,000-ton power press was over 25m high, as high as 10-storeyed apartment, composed of 70 200 accessories of 3 070 kinds and even the smallest screw to bind the main body was like the full load of one truck. To fully automate the operation of such an extra-large equipment with only a few buttons, there were so many technical problems to be solved.
Besides, it was really a miracle to produce such a huge equipment in a year.
Realizing the inner thoughts of the Chairman who visited Ryongsong, the working class determined that they would produce a 10,000-ton power press without fail if the party wanted them to.
He said that they should produce a 10,000-ton power press as a present dedicated to the 40th anniversary of the founding of the Workers' Party of Korea next year, giving them great trust and highly appreciating that Ryongsong Machine Complex was a powerful complex.
His trust immediately made Ryongsong seethe like a melting pot. All the officials, workers, technicians, even housewives and children in the Complex turned out in the campaign to produce the 10,000-ton power press day and night.
The Chairman led them to create a miracle with his continuous trust and love.
The work of producing a 10,000-ton power press was much more arduous than that of producing 3 000-ton and 6 000-ton power presses from the beginning.
They had to design 70,200 accessories of 3,000 kinds in a few months and cast the metal material of one spare part that weighed over 200 ton in the electric furnaces with the capacity of only 60 ton.
It was impossible according to the accepted engineering reckoning.

On June 2, the next month after he visited Ryongsong, the Chairman personally sent an official from the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea to the Complex to encourage them not to lose confidence in any situation as he would give Party's boost to the production and on June 7, a few days later, actors and actresses of Mansudae Art Troupe were dispatched to inspire them. On June 8, he gave instructions to the Administration Council of the DPRK that they should take measures to support the manufacture of a 10,000-ton power press on a nation-wide scale.
A few days later, he sent a group of talented scientists to the complex to help them on a scientific and technological basis and two days later, he organized a team of cameramen for a documentary film and dispatched it to the spot, saying that it was necessary to film their heroic efforts to hand it down to posterity.
Later, acquainting himself with the campaign carried out by the working class of Ryongsong for the manufacture of a 10,000-ton power press several times, he ensured that the committees and departments from the Administration Council of the DPRK should supply the equipment and materials needed for manufacturing a 10,000-ton power press and when hearing that they underwent hard times, he roused the whole country to support Ryongsong.
Indeed, every day and every month when a 10,000-ton power press was manufactured was the period when the Chairman's warm love and trust exploded their wisdom and zeal beyond comparison and gave full play to their ability.
The working class of Ryongsong, who was called a powerful Complex by the Chairman, pooled their efforts and knowledge with the wholehearted desire to live up to his love and trust.
They rebuilt the 10-ton furnace into 20-ton furnace, 20-ton into 50-ton, 30-ton into 75-ton boldly and made a record which was unprecedented in history of casting, including the casting of a metal material weighing more than 200 tons by the cooperative casting of all furnaces. They also created a remarkable speed, such as passing the target of accessory production in two and half a month, which would have taken more than two years before.
They lifted a metal material weighing 135 tons with a 30-ton crane and carried out everything such as design, manufacture and assemble in a new way, making what did not exist and discovering what was short of.
As a result, they finished the general assembly of the 10,000-ton power press before the anniversary of the founding of the WPK and finally performed the test working of it on October 9, Juche 74(1985), thus making a present of loyalty dedicated to Chairman
In March, Juche 75(1986), he visited Ryongsong Machine Complex again and appreciated them for their making a proud present for the 40th anniversary of the founding of the WPK.
He made a long journey and warmly shook the hands of the senior officials, workers and engineers, who were impressed with great emotion, and said that he couldn't just watch the picture of the 10,000-ton power press in the newspaper, which was built by dint of self-reliance of the working class of Ryongsong, and he thought if he saw it after being installed on Chollima Steel Complex, the producers would be disappointed, so he found time that day to visit them and see the power press. He highly appreciated that the 10,000-ton power press was a great monumental project of the era and the workers from Ryongsong Machine Complex had rendered a great service.
The working class of Ryongsong burst with great emotion that they had worked only for the day to meet the Chairman, which was such a beautiful scene of trust and return that the leader trusted the working class and the latter displayed their loyalty to the leader's trust.
The 10,000-ton power press, first built in the country, was a proud machine that gave full play to the might of Juche industry.
The production of a 10,000-ton power press made it possible to manufacture the large-size rolling mill, the turbine axis of a large-size generator, the propeller axis of a large vessel and served as an important asset for the manufacture of extra-large machinery equipment.
