The Immortal Exploits Achieved By President Kim Il Sung For The Development Of The Cement Industry Of The DPRK

President Kim Il Sung said:

"The cement industry is a Juche-oriented industry that produces cement with limestone abundantly deposited in our country."

Early on, President Kim Il Sung made a clear insight into the importance and significance of the cement industry in socialist construction in our nation and wisely led the establishment of the Juche-oriented cement industry to perform great undying feats.

To develope the cement industry is of great significance in building a powerful socialist country.

First of all, only when the cement industry is in place and cement is produced at will, will it be possible to build factories, enterprises, power stations, roads, ports, houses, schools, hospitals and other buildings to accelerate the economic construction and people's living standards.

Cement is also essential to strengthen the defense capability of the state.

President Kim Il Sung, who deeply penetrated into the significance of the cement industry in economic development, improvement of the people's living standard and defense construction, set forth the line and ways for creating and developing the Juche-oriented cement industry and wisely led the campaign to realize them.

What is important in the immortal exploits achieved by President Kim Il Sung for the development of the cement industry is, first of all, that he founded a powerful cement industry in our country.

President Kim Il Sung personally took the construction sites for the newly built major cement factories despite his busy work.

The President analyzed the characteristics of the cement industry scientifically and indicated the line and ways to build the cement factories close to the source of raw materials.

The President said that the prospect for cement production was very good because the state has rich raw materials needed for cement production and made sure that the cement production capacity expanded consistently.

In February Juche 43(1954) after the war, the President visited the Chongryong Plain in Pongsan County and led the work to build the modern cement factory in the plain where there was plenty of high quality limestone.

Later, in August Juche 47(1958), the President visited the construction site again and personally looked at the equipment made by the soldier-builders of the People's Army by themselves and highly appreciated its capability to increase the speed of construction twice as much.

Saying that the factory should be named "2.8 cement factory" because the People's Army put great efforts for the factory, he ensured that the brilliant labour feats of the soldier-builders of the People's Army were handed down to posterity forever.

In addition, President Kim Il Sung initiated the plan to construct the Sunchon Cement Factory (then) on May 4, Juche 62 (1973) and personally chose the site on the spot.

The President said that the site was a very favourable place to build a cement factory with electricity supply, a lot of limestone, coal and clay buried in the vicinity and with the Taedong River flowing nearby and that there would be no such good place in the world as a cement site. And he stressed that he was planning to build a large cement factory there and produce cement on a large scale.

He earnestly said that the steel and cement needed for the building of the cement factory should be provided on priority basis.

Under the wise guidance of the President, the Sunchon Cement Complex was built into a large-scale cement production base in a short period of time.

In addition to this, the President personally chose the sites of the major cement factories in our country on the spot and visited the construction sites including the Buraesan Cement Factory and the Kuchang Cement Factory several times to solve all the problems arising in the construction one by one, thus laying a solid foundation for the Juche-oriented cement industry.

The undying feats achieved by President Kim Il Sung for the development of the cement industry were that he wisely led the work to increase cement production and put it on regular basis.

President Kim Il Sung taught how to solve the problems arising in putting the production of cement on regular basis, one by one, in his several works and teachings, including the immortal classic works dealing with some immediate tasks facing the building materials industry sector and some problems in putting the production on regular basis at the Sunchon Cement Factory and increasing the production of copper.

President Kim Il Sung, in particular, gave several earnest instructions on the issue of putting the production on regular basis at the Sunchon Cement Complex which is a large-scale cement production base in the DPRK.

The President personally solved some problems arising in putting the production on regular basis at the Sunchon Cement Complex one by one in his speech made in the consultative meeting of officials in the sector of building materials industry on November 14, Juche 66 (1977) and in several teachings.

The President earnestly said that putting the production on regular basis at the Sunchon Cement Factory (then) is significant not only in developing the country's productive forces but also of great political significance and the proper operation of the Sunchon Cement Factory is an important political issue related to the authority of our Party and the nation.

The President said that in order to put the production on regular basis at the Sunchon Cement Factory, the development of the slate mine should be accelerated above all.

When it was suggested that there was not enough clay which is the secondary materials around the factory, the President took measures to use slate as a substitute for cement, saying that slate was just as good as clay. He said that the clay was difficult to dig and carry in the rainy season, but we had no such problems in the production of slate and its transport, and took all measures to put the production on regular basis by finding the slate which could replace the clay.

The President, who instructed on stepping up the development of the limestone mine following the slate mine, said that coal and heavy oil should be regularly supplied to the Sunchon Cement Factory in order to put the production on regular basis although heavy oil was lacked.

He also promised to give priority to the issues related to the operation of the Sunchon Cement Factory.

Later in January Juche 67 (1978), the President taught in detail how to solve the problems arising in developing the mines for the production of silica and gypsum and said that the machine factory and the refractory factory should be built in a large scale so that the machines and refractories needed in the production of cement could be produced on their own.

The President taught how to solve not only the problems arising in putting the production on regular basis at the Sunchon Cement Complex but also at the the major cement factories of the state.

He gave detailed instructions on putting the cement production on regular basis at the Chonnae-ri Cement Factory on June 9, Juche 48 (1959) and he earnestly taught that the modern floating plastic plasticizing method should be introduced in the Buraesan Cement Factory and the Chonnae-ri Cement Factory to increase the cement production in several meetings in the 1980s.

Thanks to the wise leadership of President Kim Il Sung, Juche-oriented large-scale cement factories including the Sunchon Cement Complex which rely on domestic raw materials and fuel were built in every province and the cement production was put on a normal basis.
