Valuing Even A Grain

Chairman Kim Jong Il was a peerless patriot who led the country and the people for tens of years with the noble patriotism in mind, instilling into the hearts of our people the genuine patriotism of holding dear even a grass and a tree in the country and warming them up with his warm blood.

The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un said:

"In the light of its essential content and great vitality, the patriotism General Kim Jong Il cherished and applied in his practical activities is the most ennobling patriotism, and it can be associated only with his name."

History records many celebrities, statesmen and patriots.

But nowhere in the world can be found the genuine patriot like Chairman Kim Jong Il who devoted his all to the country and people, regarding it as his lifelong motto to believe in the people as in heaven.

One day in November Juche 56 (1967), Chairman Kim Jong Il, passing by a threshing ground of a farm in Taedong County, suddenly stopped the car.

The thing is, it was lunchtime, and the farmers, who had been doing the threshing on a straw mat along the main road in front of the threshing ground, went back home leaving all as it was.

He got out of the car and said how we could possibly tread on the grain, and suggested moving the mat aside before going on, personally lifting one corner of the mat.

At that time, farm officials rushed to greet him and said that it would be okay for his car to go over the mat.

Then he said that we couldn't do so, that we couldn't dare to tread on the peasants' hard-won grain, and earnestly said to the farm officials that on the way, he felt sorry to see, on the paddy fields, a lot of grains off rice-sheaves while they were being carried.

He told the officials, who were unable to raise their heads due to a twinge of remorse, that when carrying rice sheaves, it would be good to put down such a mat in order not to lose even a grain, and that they should value each grain even in the bumper year.

Then he stressed the need to bring home to peasants the idea of valuing and sparing even a grain while laboring to produce as much crop as possible

Listening carefully to each word of his instructions, the officials felt the great weight of a grain.

It was the weight of conscience and patriotism to be kept deeply in mind not only by the officials and working people in the agricultural field but also by the people across the country.

Genuine patriotism is one of practice and devotion indeed, not of an empty talk.

It is the genuine patriot's attitude to devotedly respond to the call of the country and people in practice, not by words.

Chairman Kim Jong Il, who set it as his lifetime goal to bring about the prosperity of the country and the happy life of the people, continued to give his tireless field guidance until the last moments of his life, leaving his happy family behind and without even a moment's rest,.

Indeed, Chairman Kim Jong Il was the peerless patriot and benevolent father of the people who loved the country and the people most ardently and devoted his whole life to the prosperity of the country and the happiness of the people, thus accomplishing immortal exploits to shine forever in the history of the country.
