Leading Us to Maintain Credit in Foreign Trade

 2025.4.2.

There are countless stories about the immortal exploits of President Kim Il Sung who devoted his whole life to well-being of Korean people.

He attached importance to maintaining credit with other countries in foreign trade and devoted his heart and efforts to it, which makes the trade officials of socialist Korea have more ardent yearning for him.

President Kim Il Sung said:

"Credit is a basic prerequisite for the development of foreign economic relations; it is a guarantee for the wide-ranging development of trade and economic and technical exchange with other countries on the principle of equality, mutual benefit and satisfying each other's needs and a factor with an important bearing on the authority of a country."

In the days of his great devotion to developing the country's economy and improving the people's standard of living, the great Leader regarded the issue of maintaining credit in foreign trade as an important problem and gave a wise guidance to it.

First of all, President clarified to our officials the importance of maintaining credit in the economic relations with other countries.

He stressed at every opportunity that the first step of foreign trade was getting credit, which leads to a continuous increase in trade, and the credit in foreign trade gained by enhancing the quality of exports and strictly maintaining the contract disciplines will lead to a further development of political relations with other countries.

On November 1, 1948, while he was summing up the results of fulfillment of the national economic plan, he said that credit should not be lost in foreign trade by giving priority to the production of export goods.

And he gave earnest instructions in the concluding speech at a General Membership Meeting of the Party Organization of the Ministry of Foreign Trade "On Tempering the Party Spirit of Foreign Trade Workers and Strictly Adhering to Independence in Foreign Trade" on January 28, 1965, that credit should be strictly maintained in trade and without credit it would not be possible to develop trade between countries. And he added that credit should be kept by not only one side but also by both sides of trade and that we should also keep credit before we require the other side to do so.

He continued that we may soon correct mistakes at home, but it is hard to recover credit if we lose it in foreign trade, and that credit is directly related to the authority of the country.

Next, the President energetically led economic and trade officials to thoroughly keep credit in foreign trade with other countries.

He ensured that the law on trade was made to establish a legal guarantee for gaining credit in trade with other countries.

In his speech " On Taking Proper Measures for the Development of Foreign Trade" delivered at a Meeting of the Permanent Committee of the Administration Council on February 25, 1983, the great Leader defined in detail that the trade law should be formulated, stressing that the trade-first principle and credit-first principle are not properly carried out because there is no trade law at present, and that only when there is a trade law can we strengthen the legal control over trade activities to establish trade discipline, gain credit and rapidly develop the economy of the country.

And he said that the trade law should stipulate that the trade plan is ahead of other plans and the fulfillment of other plans should not be accepted before the trade plan is carried out.

President saw to it that the leading economic and trade officials thoroughly carried out the state-sponsored export plan to gain credit.

In order to maintain good credit in foreign trade, he took an innovative measure to organize the combined companies producing goods to export in a special way.

As a result, trade targets were steadily increased in the DPRK by ensuring the quality, date of export and credit for them, and new innovations were made in trade to fully demonstrate the validity of the WPK's independent trade policy and the advantages of socialism of Korean style.
