The first Orthoptera (Insecta) from the Lower Cretaceous of Democratic People's Republic of Korea

A new fossil grasshopper was collected from the third member of the Sinuiju Formation from Paektho-dong, Sinuiju City, North Phyongan Province, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK). A new genus and species, Sinuijus baekthoensis gen. et sp. nov., belongs to the family Prophalangopsidae. The new finding not only broadens the distribution of the family Prophalangopsidae but also increases the diversity of insect in Sinuiju Biota. This is the first fossil Orthoptera that is found from the Mesozoic of the DPRK.
